    Strontian Primary School

    Client – S&K Builders The new Strontian Primary School is located on a site to the south of Ardnamurchan High School. It is a Greenfield site, bounded by open moorland on all sides except to the north where the High School is located. Apart from providing modern classrooms with auxiliary rooms the brief required that at the end of its use as a school, the building could be economically converted into four affordable houses for rent. To this end individual Air Source heat-pumps were installed to each defined unit that will allow future separation to be easily achieved. Services infrastructure within to buildings was also routed appropriately to allow this to be achieved.
  • West Highland College, Portree

    West Highland College, Portree

    Client – University of Highlands and Islands Scope – M & E Design for this BREEAM Very Good College. Traditionally procured new college comprising professional training kitchen, art studio, hairdressing training salon, construction workshops and biomass boiler installation. The initial BREEAM target for this facility was excellent. To this end extensive reporting and modelling was completed by the design team. Geographical location played a huge factor in the excellent rating not being achieved. Project was completed to the satisfaction of the client.

    Portree Gaelic School

    Project: Portree Gaelic School Client: The Highland Council Value: Approx £8.7M Portree Gaelic School is a state of the art primary school, located on the Isle of Skye. The new Gaelic School is providing pupils with access to education via the Gaelic Medium, representing an important cultural foundation in the area. cdmm uk ltd were appointed as Mechanical and Electrical designers, as well as low carbon energy assessors for the project. The project consists of an intelligent natural ventilation strategy to all classrooms, maximising the comfort of the users. This strategy is also complemented by a radiant heating solution, fed by a Biomass Boiler solution to minimise the buildings carbon footprint, whilst maintaining a comfortable environment. cdmm works closely with the design team, Contractors, and Client to ensure the new Gaelic School was delivered successfully.
  • Orkney Research and Innovation Campus

    Orkney Research and Innovation Campus

    Project: Orkney Research and Innovation Campus Client: Highland and Islands Enterprise/Orkney Islands Council Value: Approx £5.5M Located in Stromness, Orkney, the newly formed Campus is a research and innovation centre for marine renewables, energy and low carbon strategies. cdmm uk ltd were appointed as Mechanical and Electrical designers, as well as low carbon energy assessors for the project. cdmm also led the feasibility study for a UK first CO2 driven sea water heat pump solution to provide heating and cooling to the Campus, whilst implementing the technology to allow this solution to be installed in the future. The project comprised of a major refurbishment of a former primary school, into a world leading research and innovation campus. cdmm were heavily involved from concept stage, to completion, working with the design team and the Construction team to deliver the project successfully.
